Listed below are services the the VCU Adult Brain Center currently offers.
Diagnosis
- Excellent clinical assessment by world-renowned experts in NPH.
- Advanced neuroimaging service, with highly trained neuroradiologists.
- CSF pressure dynamics studies, evaluated by the developer of the technique, Anthony Marmarou, PhD.
- External Lumbar Drainage Test - crucial assessment step before surgical treatment of NPH.
Treatment
- Placement of CSF shunts by a highly trained neurosurgical team, led by Harold Young, MD, Chairman of the Department with over thirty years of operative experience.
- Choice of shunt guided by expert analysis of CSF dynamics studies.
- Follow-up: provision of ongoing care and assessment, tests of shunt functionality and revision of shunts where required.
Support
- A support group is available for patients diagnosed with NPH and their families.
